The Sledge Grits Band is taking the music industry by storm. Since the band’s inception, they have performed at over 300 shows including BET’s “106 & Park.”
The group consists of four sisters, Bo-Pah (drummer), Mimi (singer), Keiko (guitar player/song writer), and Kariel (bass player). The California residents started playing instruments about 7 years ago. Keiko, Kariel and Mimi all started on the guitar. Bo-Pah kept time for her sisters on the bottom of a gumbo pot and thus, a drummer was created. Mimi became the singer, while Kariel gravitated to the bass and Keiko stayed with the guitar.
The group’s name, The Sledge Grits Band, encompasses their foundation. SLEDGE is their last name and GRITS stands for Girls Raised in the Sun.
When asked about their passion and drive at such a young age, they replied, “We have been through a lot in our short lives. Our Daddy has MS and that has been a hard struggle for us. Music has helped us through sooo much and we think that’s what people see when we perform. Our passion…”
